The nominations had been held up by Senate Judiciary ranking member Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, who demanded the FCC turn over all documents related to its actions in the LightSquared matter. The FCC refused, arguing Grassley's panel does not have oversight of the agency. But the Commission recently turned over thousands of documents to House Energy and Commerce Committee chairman Fred Upton, R-Mich., which Grassley's staff have already begun reviewing.
Pai is currently a partner at Jenner & Block and previously served as chief counsel to the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Civil Rights. He joined the Justice Department early in his career as an honors program trial attorney in the telecommunications task force of the antitrust division. He has also served as general counsel at Verizon.
Rosenworcel has worked for Senate Commerce chairman Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., since 2009 and for Sen. Daniel Inouye, D-Ha., from 2007 to 2008. She served as Copps' senior legal adviser from 2003 to 2007 and as legal counsel to the FCC's Wireline Bureau chief from 2002 to 2003.
