A nascent group representing the mobile app industry has made a splash by hiring former Facebook lobbyist Tim Sparapani. Roll Call's Janie Lorber reports the Application Developers Alliance announced Monday that Sparapani will join the three-month old trade group as its top lobbyist, six months after he left Facebook. Sparapani joined the social networking giant after a four-year stint at the ACLU, where he became known as a staunch privacy advocate as senior legislative counsel. The ADA's agenda will focus on intellectual property, spectrum allocation, cybersecurity and mobile payments. Member companies develop software tools such as the photo-sharing app Instagram, recently purchased by Facebook for $1 billion, as well as games and other apps.
Apple Gets Warning on Malware: The Economist's Babbage blog points to the recent Flashback virus that affected some Mac users and suggests Apple better get serious about the threat of malware, which the firm has largely avoided thanks to luck. Flashback may have caused only minor headaches, but Apple's rising profile and increasing market share mean Macintosh is likely to be the target of more attacks going forward.
